How to disable annoying ads on Android | Android Authority – Android news, tips and more
The best way to disable ads on Android is to install a VPN app on your device. While ads are useful to drive traffic to websites, they can be a hindrance. This is especially true on Android, where ad networks have access to your device's internet connection.
Google and Verizon have begun the trial of a new ad-free service in the US. It's called Google Fi and it will launch as an app for both Android and iOS in the summer.
Verizon is planning a new service called Fi, which will offer phone and data plans without ads.
Amazon's Kindle Fire tablets will also get ad-free and data-free apps from Verizon, and its Go90 app will get a redesigned version to include ad-free and data-free experiences.
Fi will only be available in the US, and it will only be offered on one brand of phone. Google announced the service alongside the Pixel 2 in New York City earlier this month, and the company has said that it will roll it out to the Nexus 5X and 6P before the end of the year.
Verizon hasn't announced any plans to bring Fi to UK customers, but as it will only be offered on one brand of phone, the Pixel 2, we should expect to see it in the UK before long.
Users of other smartphones on Verizon's network will get an ad-free experience through Verizon's existing apps for apps like Candy Crush and MLB.tv.
The terms of the pilot suggest that users will have to be happy with ads while using Fi, but at least they will be able to do it without an extra monthly fee.
Google's announcement of Fi says that users will be able to add up to 10 GB of data per month for free, and use up to $70 of data per month without seeing ads.
If Fi goes on sale in the US, it could be a huge success, but it will face an uphill battle in the UK. Verizon is the only UK carrier with a data-only plan, and even on its data-only plan, the company still charges customers for the privilege of using the mobile network.
Two of the UK's biggest carriers, EE and Vodafone, still offer data-only plans but those that don't will soon get priced out of the market as O2 cuts prices on its data-only plans by be359ba680
